BMW is expanding its electric vehicle lineup with the upcoming iX3 SUV, set to arrive at dealerships as a 2027 model. The iX3 takes the popular X3 crossover and transforms it into a fully electric vehicle designed for efficiency, performance, and luxury. BMW of Monterey in Seaside, CA, will be one of the first dealerships to receive the iX3.
The BMW iX3 is powered by dual electric motors, one driving the front wheels and one powering the rear, for electric all-wheel drive capability. This setup will generate impressive horsepower and torque for quick acceleration. BMW estimates the iX3 will sprint from zero to 60 mph in under five seconds, on par with or faster than the gas X3 models.
With a large battery pack, the iX3 is projected to have 400 miles of range on a full charge, providing ample range for daily driving around Santa Cruz and longer road trips. When it's time to recharge, the iX3 will be able to utilize DC Fast Charging stations, replenishing the battery as quickly as 230 miles in 10 minutes. Home charging on 240-volt will also be possible.
Inside the iX3, a spacious and upscale interior awaits, with premium materials and cutting-edge technology. The centerpiece is a large high-resolution touchscreen display for the iDrive system, controlling navigation, audio, vehicle settings, and more. A digital instrument cluster, head-up display, wireless charging, and premium sound system will also be available. Comfort features like heated seats, a panoramic sunroof, and a power liftgate provide convenience.
The iX3 will come standard with BMW's Active Driving Assistant, a suite of advanced safety technologies. This includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, and lane departure warning. Adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, automatic high beams, and parking sensors will also be offered, making driving around Monterey safer and less stressful.
Visually, the iX3 will be distinguished from the standard X3 by unique front and rear bumpers optimized for aerodynamics, along with special wheel designs and blue accents signifying its electric powertrain. But the iX3 retains the same convenient size and versatile cargo space as the gas X3, making it a practical choice.
BMW will offer the iX3 electric SUV in several well-equipped trim levels, likely mirroring the X3 lineup with an sDrive35i base model, xDrive35i, and a performance-oriented M50i with the most power. More details on specific feature differences will be available closer to launch.
