Recently, BMW revealed the company's conception of the future of automotive interior design when they introduced the i Inside Future concept at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
The central element in the i Inside future concept is HoloActive Touch display. This virtual touchscreen floats freely above the center console, using basically the same technology as the BMW head-up display. The system also incorporates a camera that senses which holographic menu item has been chosen, plus ultrasonic waves that provide tactile feedback to the user. Perhaps the most impressive feature is that the menu structure changes to respond to the selected drive mode. In autonomous mode, for example, the entertainment system functions are more readily available.
Expect the concept, which accommodates both autonomous and standard driving modes, to be integrated into future BMW self-driving vehicles.
