While the X3, the X5, and the X7 have many shared qualities, understanding their differences can help you make a smart selection. What should you know about these three BMW crossovers before you narrow down the possibilities?

Performance

The 2021 BMW X3’s introductory engine is a four-cylinder, 2.0-liter design that produces 248 horsepower. The X3 is also offered with a 382-horsepower, twin-turbo V6, 3.0-liter engine. In comparison, the 2021 X5 and the 2021 X7 start their trim lines with this same 382-horsepower engine. The X5’s higher-level powertrain is a twin-turbo V8, 4.4-liter engine. The X7’s top powertrain is a bi-turbo variant of this V8 engine.

Appearance

The 2021 X3 is a compact crossover that accommodates five passengers. The X5 can accommodate seven passengers with an optional third row, and the third row is standard in the X7. The 2021 X3 is the smallest of the three models, and its design features a two-part grille, dual-sectioned LED headlights, and an overall upright stance. The 2021 X5 has a longer nose that descends elegantly into the dual-part grille. The headlights are stunningly modern, and the metal-outlined lower air vents accent their angle. The 2021 BMW X7 has a two-part grille and scalloped LED headlights on an almost-flat nose. Chrome accents, raised roof rails, a hands-free liftgate, and prominent dimensions distinguish the X7 from other BMW crossovers.

Features

The differences between these vehicles extend to their available and included features. Throughout all models, you can enjoy leather seats, powered adjustments, an auto climate control system, Bluetooth hands-free tech, an iDrive system, and more. As you walk up the trim lines, the advanced options introduce a hands-free power liftgate, more refined materials, a wireless hotspot, additional assistive safety features, and more.
